School Age Child Care

Where children in grades K-8 engage, learn, and achieve

Here at the Community YMCA we have been providing high quality, affordable care to our local community for over 20 years. Our Y’s School Age Care program extends your child’s learning day in a fun and meaningful way! Our programs enable children to realize their potential in a place where fun & learning go hand in hand. With a focus on character development and healthy living, children experience academic, physical, and social activities, under the supervision of positive, caring role models. Parents enjoy peace of mind knowing their school-age children have safe, healthy options before and after school – right in their child’s school.

Afterschool Programs provide academic intervention, healthy activities, and enrichment opportunities throughout the school year, boosting their grades and reducing their risk-taking behaviors.

Academic Support-Homework Assistance:

The Community Y SACC program offers a quiet, structured atmosphere with Y Staff assistance to complete daily school assignments. They will assist each student when necessary; however children will be encouraged to complete homework independently. While assignments are checked for completion, it is the responsibility of the parent to check for accuracy.

STEM Activities

(Science, Technology, Engineering,& Math) STEM Education attempts to transform the typical teacher-centered classroom by encouraging a curriculum that is driven by problem-solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and require students to actively engage a situation in order to find its solution. Combining STEM learning with youth developmental expertise of afterschool professionals has the potential to revolutionize both fields by integrating each other’s strengths.

Sports & Games

Our programs utilize the CATCH (Coordinated Approach To Child Health) curriculum. CATCH is an evidence-based and award winning curriculum that was created in 1992 by national education and child health experts at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health (UTHSC) and the Michael & Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living.

CATCH is an evidence-based, coordinated school health program designed to promote physical activity, healthy food choices and the prevention of tobacco use in children. The CATCH Programs cover kids from preschool through 8th grade and has been implemented in 8,500 schools and afterschool organizations across America. By teaching children that eating healthy and being physically active every day can be fun, CATCH has proven that establishing healthy habits in childhood can promote behavior changes that can last a lifetime. Results show improvement in key health measurements including increased physical activity and healthier eating.

HEPA (Healthy Eating Physical Activity)

The YMCA of the USA and the Community Y have implemented HEPA Standards that foster the best possible nutrition and physical activity outcomes for children in grades K-12 attending out-of-school-time programs, such as our School Age Child Care programs. These standards mirror the Y’s commitment to healthier living as they provide for daily physical activity and the limiting of sedentary activities to 30 minute increments.

 SACC Handbook

Please take a few moments to read this handbook; we designed it to inform parents and children all about our programs, policies and procedures. Our goal is to provide you with great programs as well as excellent customer service. Please let us know if there is anything, we can do to improve your experience.

Each site is considered a licensed SACC center by the NYS Office of Children & Family Services. Your child’s file is subject to random inspection at any point in the school year. For this reason, registration packets must be complete before fully enrolling your child.

Vacation Fun Club

The YMCA offers a vacation day program during certain school breaks. The program operates from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and is open to all with priority given to children registered in our before school or after school program. Advance registration is required and there is an additional fee for this service. Vacation Fun Clubs are not guaranteed for all school breaks.

Throughout the school year, there may be additional care days offered based on individual district schedules. We reserve the right to cancel VFC due to low enrollment.
